The Combined Organization Represents the Largest Minority Energy Infrastructure Company in the U.S., Expands Services for INTREN Customers
Union, Ill..—INTREN, one of the country's largest women-owned utility specialty companies, today announced that it has been acquired by MasTec (NYSE: MTZ). INTREN is a premier WBE utility specialty contractor that works with the nation’s largest utility providers, private contractors and developers, municipalities and cooperatives. For more than 30 years, INTREN has served as an innovative utility solutions partner, building and maintaining the infrastructure of the energy industry. MasTec, based in Coral Gables, Fla., provides utility customers with engineering, building, installation, maintenance and upgrading services for infrastructures throughout the U.S.
With the acquisition comes the promotion of INTREN CEO Sherina Maye Edwards to President and Chief Executive Officer and Matthew Turk from President to Chief Operating Officer. “INTREN and MasTec have the same culture of quality, safety, innovation and inclusion with a strong emphasis on the values that our founders believed in, including hard work, commitment to customer service and employee empowerment,” said Edwards. “Becoming a part of MasTec means INTREN will be able to not just expand the work we’re doing today but also expand into new markets, and better deliver for our customers.
MasTec is a Fortune 500 company with more than 80 years of experience and is ranked among the top specialty contractors in the country. The company has remained under family ownership since its founding.
"We brought INTREN into the MasTec family because the company matches our own high standards when it comes to safety, quality and performance,” said José Mas, Chief Executive Officer of MasTec. “INTREN was founded in much the same way my father founded MasTec decades ago, and it has the same spirit of innovation and can-do attitude that powers our company to this day. I’m highly confident in Sherina who, in her short time at the company, has delivered continuous improvement in customer satisfaction as well as an operational culture focused on accountability. I am certain that MasTec and INTREN have a bright future together.”
INTREN was founded in 1988 by one woman, Loretta Rosenmayer, with a dream and a loan from a friend. Today, it employs more than 2,000 people and operates in 14 states.
